The holy month of Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar. It is the month during which the Holy Quran was revealed as guidance for all mankind for the very first time. Ramadan is about sacrifice, patience and discipline. There are countless ahadith attesting its significance.
Every year Ramadan graces us with its presence. During this month Muslims fast from sunrise to sunset and abstain from eating, drinking or sinful or inappropriate activities. It teaches us self-discipline and control whilst rewarding us with taqwa (being conscious and cognizant of Allah) and enlightenment through obedience to Allah (SWT).
This is a key time for the Muslim Ummah to demonstrate unity and come to the aid of those who need assistance. There are millions of people around the world in dire need of some of life’s most basic necessities such as food, water, clothing and shelter. As citizens of humanity, it is our moral responsibility to come to their aid and assistance.
We at AAP have launched three fundraising appeals this Ramadan, one international with The Citizens Foundation, one national with National Zakat Foundation and this local appeal with Berkshire Womens Aid.
BWA provide confidential support, information, outreach services and refuge accommodation for women and their children who are affected by domestic abuse and violence.
They also provide confidential support, information and outreach services to men who have experienced domestic abuse and violence.
We ask all our members to consider and donate to help make these appeals successful during this blessed month.
