Turning 30 this year, I wanted to challenge myself beyond my comfort zone - maybe a premature mid-life crisis - and so I signed up for the Run Reigate Half Marathon.
I’ve never been a sporty person, PE filled me with dread at school, and when I started training I hadn’t done much more than 5k. But it was going well, I began to say strange things like “I love starting the day with a 6 mile run”, became well acquainted with Decathlon, and developed a slightly concerning craving for Chia Charge energy bars.
Three weeks before the race, I strained two muscles in my leg, and was out of action. Training and fundraising went on hold, and I very nearly didn’t do the race - but decided to go for it on the day. Because of my injury, my goal was just to finish it - so I was pretty chuffed to run the whole thing (hills and more hills), in 2:17:01. Not bad for a first timer with a dodgy leg.
If you would like to retrospectively sponsor me, I would be so grateful, as would Stripey Stork - a wonderful charity local to Reigate, founded by my cousin(-in-law). The Stork supports children and parents experiencing hardship, by donating pre-loved baby equipment, toys, clothes and other essentials, to make life a little easier for families who greatly need it.
Thank you for anything you can give.
