Growing up in diverse inner city Bristol, I have personally recognised the lack of acknowledgement of young people's talent and achievements in the area. I believe that celebrating young people enables them to feel part of society and positively develop as a whole.
As part of my degree top-up at the University of Gloucestershire, and with the support of local youth groups, I have taken it upon myself to put on an exciting awards event to celebrate diverse talent from inner city Bristol - called EMPOWERED.
EMPOWERED will see local residents from Bristol nominate and celebrate talented young people through the following categories: Education, Choices, Community, Sports, Enterprise, Arts (Performing, Literal and Visual), IT and Leadership (more info to follow).
EMPOWERED will also give:
· Inner City Young People – the opportunity to volunteer on the project to develop their workplace skills, gain work experience and even a qualification through the process
· Local Residents/Business – the opportunity to be part of acknowledging the talent that we have, and support them to progress further
The evening will consist of exciting performances, guest speakers, awards, food, music, stalls and much more. We want to make the event FREE for young people and local families to attend, so will appreciate your support to cover the cost! : )
