It’s a year on the 27th of April since Virginia passed away and to mark the event I have organised a sponsored walk of some of the Roman Wall, it is my intention to carry Virginias ashes with me and at 12.45pm on Monday 27th I will scatter them wherever we are. If I have calculated the time correctly it should be about Heaven Fields, St Oswalds Church, Low Brunton the history of that place goes back to 634 AD and is connected with St Cuthbert, the view is stunning. Below is the programme of the 5 days walk:- Firstly we are going home to bed every night. Each day will start at 10am or earlier (To be confirmed) at the point we have finished the night before. I have transport in the shape of an 8 seat minibus which is available from Hexham each morning to take some walkers to the start point and it will be used as a shuttle from the start to finish or the reverse for the ones who prefer to take their own cars. Also there is a backup car on offer as well for injury and fatigue. I realise that not everyone can do all 5 days you are welcome to do as little or as much as you want. I have selected the most scenic part of the wall missing out the start from the Solway and the end part from Heddon on the Wall to Wallsend and the route with mileage has been taken from A Cicerone Guide ‘Hadrians Wall Path’ by Mark Richards. This is not a slog of a route but a casual walk that should take no more than 5 to 6 hrs per day, some will do it much quicker than that. The whole idea is to raise money for two charities which I hope will be in equal amounts. It’s up to each person to balance out the donations as it is important that we maximise the money we raise by Gift Aid The two Charities are Macmillan and Daft as a Brush On Saturday 2nd May at 7.30pm we are going to have a social evening at Tynedale Golf Club where there will be some entertainment and hopefully a slide show of pictures from the walk.
