I'm raisng funds for Bury Lake Young Mariners, a voluntary sailing charity that was runner up of 1,400 UK sailing clubs in the Royal Yachting Association's Club of the Year competition in 2015.
BLYM delivered more thnan 18,000 sailing sessions last year to people of all ages, mainly to young, disabled and disadvantaged categories. BLYM has more than 200 volunteer instructors who give freely of their time to provide purposeful activities using the charitiy's fleet of over 100 sailing dinghies at Rickmansworth Aquadrome. More than half of these volunteers are under the age of 18.
BLYM operates from a dilapidated clubhouse that urgently needs replacing to provide space for the ever-growing demand, and in particular to provide more accessible facilities for those with disabilities. A new £1.7m clubhouse has been designed and a further £300,000 needs to be raised to enable construction to start.
