As a regular volunteer at the Life Project, Bath, I have first hand experience of the valuable contribution this charity makes to the lives of local adults with acute learning difficulties, through teaching life skills, enabling creativity and encouraging fellowship in a safe, family orientated environment, at our barn in rural Englishcombe, near Bath. I also know that, without charitable donations, this service would not exist. So, despite the fact that I am of retirement age, am no budding athlete, but do enjoy an occasional swim, I decided to join in with the charity’s summer fundraising events and set myself a personal swimming  challenge, which hopefully will benefit the Life Project as well.
As I was used to swims of 20 lengths in a 25m pool, I set myself the goal of swimming 3km over 4 days in succession, i.e.30 lengths x 25m per day. I also wanted to see if I could possibly improve on my personal best of 30 lengths per swim.
So, during this past week, I have seen rather a lot of my local leisure centre swimming pool and can honestly say that I have never swam so often or so far in my life before, hopefully all in a good cause!
As a result I managed to exceed my personal best, achieving 40 lengths, 50 lengths, 44 lengths and 46 lengths over the four consecutive days.  This amounted to 4.5km in total, and  gave me a far greater sense of achievement than I ever could have imagined.
I hope you feel able to support my efforts to fundraise for the Life Project to whatever extent you can afford. Please remember that every donation, no matter how large or small, is appreciated, helps our “makers” to flourish and enables this charity to continue to make a significant difference to the lives of vulnerable adults in the Bath area. Meanwhile, my new mantra is “Challenges make me a better me!”  Thank you to the Life Project for inspiring me to complete this challenge and thank you to you for your kindness, should you feel able to support this appeal.
