I was meant to be keeping my feet firmly on the ground, but just couldn't let spaces go to waste for what could be a wonderful experience for someone... I set the challenge to get remaining spaces filled, with I 'I will, if you will'! and now spaces filled I'm terrified, already having nightmares, so glad I only have to make it to this Sunday for it to be over.

I started work with Angel Eyes NI in April 2021 and am so inspired by the small dedicated team who work tirelessly for children and young people with a visual impairment to have access to the same opportunities as sighted children. With no previous experience of what it could mean to have a visual impairment as an adult, it has been a steep learning curve to understand what that means when you have a child with a visual impairment, or are the child/young person with a visual impairment.

What additional challenges do they have in reaching the normal childhood milestones? How can they access and enjoy the things I enjoyed sharing with my niece and nephew when they were little? Because I have discovered they can!  They might just need a little extra help.

The biggest statistic that has stuck with me since I started, is that 80% of childhood learning comes through sight... so for 'our' parents this is the challenge to enable their child to learn without having full sight, whether that is lifeskills or when they enter education. The Angel Eyes team are here to help parents do this with the help of funders, donors and community fundraising activities like this abseil. In short, we depend on YOU!
