Art sessions include painting, creative crafts, textiles and ceramics. Sessions are held 4 mornings a week and average attendance is between 20-25 disabled members. Sessions are led by tutors and volunteers. Students from loccal colleges and secondary schools are able to join DRUM on work experience placements and assist members during the activity sessions. NEW ART PROJECT FOR 2010/11 - 'OURSELVES AND OTHERS'.

Why they need our service

The group art activity sessions are organised to encourage mental dexterity, visual awareness, decision making, social interaction, enjoyment and physical and mental stimulation. This helps with memory, concentration and using language. The art sessions promote creativity through working with, exploring and discovering a wide variety of mediums and materials. Art is something that everyone can do and focuses more on ability than disability.

Plan and expected results

Participation during activity sessions can help people overcome feelings of depression, anxiety and negative feelings; we focus on what is important for that person and how we can help them achieve and stay positive. Art work is exhibited to the public, raising awareness of disability, promoting DRUM and sold to raise money towards future art projects.
