I'm running the leeds 10km in September for zig zag.
Zig zag is a leeds based charity ran by parents of autistic children. It helps to support 100s of families across leeds with advice and support, help with the overwelming and what seems like never ending forms, training sessions, activities for the children's such has soft play, jump sessions and sensory plays. Most importantly they help to remind you that you and your family are never alone.
Zig zag has been a lifeline for us so many times over the years and feel so lucky that we found them so early on in Brookes journey. Brooke is 7 and non verbal, she was diagnosed just before her 3rd birthday. We have often struggled to go on family day outs through out the years even to simple places like the park. Little things could trigger a meltdown in her and would often be met by people who don't understand staring and whispering making an already upsetting time more stressful and would leave us coming away being upset and disheartened that we couldn't enjoy what's deemed a "normal" day out like everybody else. Once we started attending some of the sen sessions that zig zag organise it was overwelming and amazing to see Brooke be able to enjoy these events in a safe place, free of judgement, full of understanding and adapted for all the children to be in a relaxing environment to have fun without having to mask their unique traits. To be around other parents where you didn't need to explain.
Any donations would be greatly appreciated to help this amazing group keep doing amazing things ❤
