ON THE 2ND AUGUST 2020, I WILL BE JUMPING FROM A PLANE AT 13,000 FEET! JUMPING FOR MY BOYS, RAISING FUNDS for the non-profit charity SPACE.
Space is a Hertfordshire based charity supporting families, parents/carers of children and young people on the Autistic Spectrum with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) or a related condition.
SPACE as a organisation have help inform, educate and support me on my journey for my sons, from suggestion, to diagnosis for Autism, ADHD, Tourette’s, Dyspraxia/Dysgraphia, Anxiety, Sensory Processing Disorder, Social Communication Disorder (and a couple other bits for added fun). SPACE as a community (both online and IRL) are inclusive, supportive and a font of knowledge.
3+yrs ago I personally knew very little about Autism, ADHD or neurodiversity in general, these were abstract terms that were from other people’s lives that didn't impact on my own. That changed when a paediatrician suggested that my eldest son was on the Autistic Spectrum, put him on a waiting list for assessment and left me with no information or answers, just lots of questions. Thankfully that's when I found SPACE. Today, I understand my own and 3 (of my 4) boys neurodiversity so much better than I could have ever hoped for and I owe that in the most part to SPACE. My family and I continue to benefit from the education, support and community that SPACE provide.
Autism is so much more common than most people think. There are over half a million people in the UK with autism - that's around 1 in 100. If you include their families, autism touches the lives of over 2 million people every day. Please help me, to help them continue their amazing work, helping families in Hertfordshire.
