Team Fundraisers
On 12th September 2020 Becky Clark and Fiona Norris will set out on a 9-day trek following the Great Wall of China.
We will be passing through woodland and terraced farmland, following the contours of the beautiful hills and mountains in remote areas north of Beijing.
But it's not all lovely views and luxury hotels - some of the sleeping arrangements are rather primitive (we're talking barns) and some parts of the wall are very old - plus there are lots of steps.
And all of it is done in very hot humid temperatures.
I have been working at My Sisters' House since July 2019 and was a supporter for a while before that. So we've decided that we'll use this challenge to help them - we've set ourselves a target of raising £5000 for this fantastic organisation.
Becky says: "2019...an interesting year, and one like I haven’t experienced before. It made me reassess my purpose, goals, dreams and direction. I was already becoming more fitness driven but wanted a challenge to force the perseverance I would need to make this a lifelong change, I needed an experience like never before and so I signed up to trek the Great Wall of China...not all of it, it’s looooooong - who knew???? Probably something I should have looked into before committing!! I thought it would be a gentle stroll through some beautiful countryside, apparently it’s steep and tough terrain (I hate heights by the way...and I expect tears, hopefully not the whole way). And then I thought who would love this idea and never says no to a challenge and that’s where Fiona comes in. She’s an incredible friend who I’ve laughed and cried with and I couldn’t think of a better person to do this alongside. Plus she’ll tell me to sort myself out if the going gets tough. It was obvious once she’d agreed (I knew she couldn’t say no) that we would fund raise for this amazing cause and so here we are counting down the months and breaking in our boots."
