We are running a relay in the Belfast Marathon for Huntington’s Disease Association NI.
HD is an inherited disease with symptoms, usually starting at mid-adulthood, causing progressive loss of control over thoughts, feelings, behaviour, movement and communication until the person requires 24 hour care. Every child conceived naturally to a parent with HD has a 50% chance of inheriting the disease. 285 people are estimated to have Huntington’s Disease in NI and there are approximately 5 times as many people at risk of inheritance.
There is currently no cure for Huntington’s disease.
