Beth’s run for Mercia Ms Therapy Centre

April 2013, one morning I woke up and lost all feeling in my legs and gradually started losing all feeling in my body. I had no idea what was going on and headed to the doctors. I was then referred to hospital.This was incredibly scary at the time and I thought I was goner. The doctor came out and diagnosed me with Multiple Sclerosis and explained that I had a relapse. At that moment in time I did not understand what MS was, but I knew it was life changing. That year was one of the most difficult times of my life. Everything I use to do became a mountain to climb.I had lost the ability to do most things that were easy such as daily physical activities,my symptoms included a wide range of difficulties with: -Fatigue -Vision problems -Numbness and tingling -Problems with cognitive learning, -Mobility problems , -Speech, Vertigo and many more. These can affect my body at anytime, I felt incredibly embarrassed and felt like I had lost myself. Since the years have past it has been an emotional rollercoaster and I still battle with different symptoms daily. I have faced some challenging times with my illness and it has got the better of me sometimes,but what has helped me get through it, is keeping a positive mental attitude and having a great understanding family and a circle of friends who don’t treat me any different. I want to run the Coventry Half Marathon and prove to myself that I am still capable of having normality in my life despite dealing with this rollercoaster illness. So what I would like to possibly do is raise as much money for the Mercia MS Therapy centre as I can. This will directly help the people who utilise and manage the charity and I know one day I could possibly need to use these services myself.
