The Big Lottery Project lasts for 5 years and we are currently in Year 3. It entails tutors going into schools and delivering the Reading Quest programme, and we also hold Family Libraries in the schools to offer extra support to parents and carers. As part of the project, we monitor attainment and also collect feedback from children, teachers and parents.
Why they need our serviceThe Big Lottery Project enables Reading Quest to teach a minimum of 150 children each year. The work for this project takes place in seven schools across the Isis Partnership in East Oxford. It has enabled us to build strong relations in these schools, and to support their children and families.
Plan and expected resultsBy the end of this 5 year project, Reading Quest will have benefited 700 children in East Oxford. There are particular milestones that we must reach (and are currently on target to do so). We expect that all children on average will have made gains of 7 months in their reading and 5 months in their spelling. We also strive to offer greater support to parents, carers and families so that reading and writing can flourish in the home as well as at school.
