I have been volunteering with Bikeworks in their All Ability clubs for a few years now and I love it. The inclusive clubs aim to get people on bikes regardless of confidence, age, experience or disability. At each club there are a range of adapted bikes such as handcycles and assisted tandems as well as standard two wheelers and adult and junior tricycles.
I love cycling and always have and by volunteering at the clubs I feel that I am able to spread my love of the sport to people who would normally not be able to get on a bike. As a volunteer I help get people comfortable on the bikes, fit any safety equipment they may need and go out riding with them so they have the support they need to get active.
You can find out more about the clubs on the Bikeworks website (http://www.bikeworks.org.uk/program/all-ability-cycling/) or their Facebook page (@Bikeworks.All.Ability)
The Prudential ride itself is a challenge at 100 miles through the Surrey hills but should be pretty fun. Speaking with some of the regulars at the club, they say they find it inspiring that myself and some of the others involved in running the clubs are going to cycle that far. The clubs get some funding from local councils, but they are always in need of a little extra to be able to provide even better bikes and facilities and offer their services to more people. I jumped at the chance to take part in the Ride London 100 event for Bikeworks as part of their team.
If you fancy supporting Bikeworks then any sponsorship you can give would be amazing and greatly appreciated. As an added incentive, my company match any sponsorship I receive so you will be helping out even more! Thanks!
