Fundraising for the Furzedown Project London to Windsor 56 mile Charity Cycle Ride Saturday 29 Aug 2015 I am doing this charity cycle ride to raise money for our local charity the Furzedown Project which supports older people living in the community. We are very fortunate to have such a local charity and as a volunteer driver there on Mondays for the swimming group I know at first-hand how important it is for the people who go there, for support, exercise, help, and company. As one of the volunteer mini-bus drivers there I know how important the various activities are as well as the company and support they provide. The Project's limited core funding from the local authority and national lottery is short-term and never covers all the Project's costs. It only covers 78%. The remaining 22% of all its costs including all its activities require extra fundraising. I am fundraising for the popular exercise classes which in a typical quarter attract 80-85 individuals, and the average age of attendees at the therapeutic exercise classes is 77. These classes receive only partial and short-term funding from Wandsworth's Clinical Commissioning Group. This London-Windsor charity ride is organised by Bike Events, the UK's biggest organiser of fundraising and recreational cycle rides. I am planning on cycling the longest of the London-Windsor routes at 56 miles though I may decide on the shorter 37 mile one depending how I feel on the day! My £500 fundraising target will pay for the cost of 20 face-to-face exercise classes and £1,000 would pay for 40 face-to-face exercise classes. It is very straightforward to donate on-line via this Localgiving web site. The Furzedown Project will be grateful for any funding raised by this ride and of course you can also register (£20) to take part in this cycle ride and fundraise yourself! If you do this please also liaise with the very helpful Moira Harbord (chair, Furzedown Project) via email harbords@btinternet.com or 07783321269
