On 3 August 2024 several business owned by or perceived to be owned by Muslim people were damaged by an islamophobic mob. Hotels acting as emergency accommodation for Asylum Seekers were also targeted with residents intimidated.
How the funding will be spent
The funds will be for two purposes. Firstly to repair damage to the premises. Secondly to provide practical support to those living in emergency accommodation who are under intimidation, many too scared to leave the building.
Any surplus money will be donated to organisations working with Muslim and Asylum Seeker communities.
How this will benefit the community
This will help business which provide services, jobs and social space for the community to reopen.
The fund will also provide practical support organisations supporting Asylum Seekers for basic needs such as food.
