
The Bursary provides Personal Development opportunities and on the job training leading to new skills and qualifications. During the 9 month scheme the young people improve their planning, organisational, budgeting and communication skills and put this to the test during expedition training. They develop as individuals, learn to work together to overcome challenges and improve their team skills. They gain valuable work experience and develop life skills as well gaining Vocational Qualifications.
Why they need our serviceUnemployed young people aged 18 - 25 from Hampshire and IoW are the target group. The Ferny Crofts Bursary is aimed at young people with few formal qualifications and who are often unclear of their future, they may or may not be within Scouting. These young people are often at a vunerable stage of their lives and through participation in the Ferny Crofts Bursary with support from Hampshire Scouting, they are able to gain vital skills, qualifications and confidence to develop a positive career.
Plan and expected resultsThe young people who complete the Bursary Scheme will obtain nationally recognised qualifications in Archery, Rifle Shooting and Climbing. They will also obtain onsite qualifications in High Ropes, Zip Wire, Raft Building, Team Building, Pond Dipping, Shelter Building and Backwoods Cooking. There is the option to also obtain a NVQ2 qualification in General Maintenance. They will also gain valuable work experience and life skills that will assist them in developing a positive career.
