BUST-A-MOVE will tackle obesity and inactive lifestyles in young people by looking at the holistic benefits of dance and exercise, showing ways to introduce them to children and young people as a foundation for everyday living, developing an awareness of personal health issues, lowering stress and raising self esteem.
Why they need our servicePhysical activity and a healthy diet play a major role in our general health and wellbeing. According to the Department of Health, although only about 14.6% of year 6 children in Cambridge are classified as obese, they are significantly less physically active than English average, showing we cannot be complacent and need to sustain improvement closely. BUST-A-MOVE aims to work with children and young people based in Cambridge to encourage an on-going active lifestyle in prevention of obesity.
Plan and expected resultsOur project will improve the health and well-being of young people in our community by changing their attitude to exercise and commitment. We believe our project will especially appeal to those who are less keen on traditional sports, providing them with healthy activities that reflect the current public interest in commercial dance/hiphop. We will also incorporate optional training sessions with the groups housed in our same venue, to encourage longer-term health once our project has ended.
