This year I turned 65 and decided that I need to do something epic and for a brilliant cause, the Bristol Bike Project, which recycles bikes and provides services and education to support cycling and maintenance skills for underprivileged and marginalised groups.
The plan is to cycle from Calais to the base of the famous Mont Ventoux, one of the Tour de France's most iconic climbs. I'll be starting on Thursday June 13th and over the next seven days I'll ride about 90 miles/150km per day. That's over 1000km. The ride will be solo and unsupported so I'll be carrying (minimal) luggage and staying at B&Bs on the way. When I get there I'll have a day or two's rest and then on Saturday June 22nd I'll be climbing Mont Ventoux as many times as I can. There are three routes to the top. Each climb is over 20km in length and two have 1600 metres of climbing and the other 1200 metres. I'm expecting to do at least two ascents.
Any donations, big or small will make a difference and will be hugely appreciated.
