During my time in Cardiff I had the great fortune of volunteering for a charity called SVC. SVC, or Student volunteering Cardiff is a volunteering organisation that helps people within the Cardiff community suffering from learning disabilities, mental health conditions, are elderly or homeless. Volunteers also work with the environment and help promote a greener Cardiff. Through many projects SVC helps students like myself to gain the opportunity to help others.
I volunteered on two projects within two years, both of which were focussed on helping people suffering from mental health conditions ranging from different forms of dementia to bipolar and schizophrenia. I gained a lot of experience and thoroughly enjoyed my time volunteering. I really do hope that the people I worked with thoroughly enjoyed it too.
I wouldn't be where I am without the help SVC gave me and because SVC gave me that opportunity, help and support I would like to give something back. Ill be running in the Cardiff Half Marathon to raise money for Student Volunteering Cardiff so please donate whatever you can to this fantastic charity helping the Cardiff community and other like-minded students.
