WHAT DO WE DO?
We are a team who engage mainly young people within the community. The Outreach team often deal with antisocial behaviour, operating in high crime areas with aim to reduce crime and increase positive interaction with young people. Often giving opportunities, activities, guidance and support to individuals in need.
Since the provisions start we have surpassed initial goals and the project has grown from strength to strength.
BACKGROUND
In April 2021, we were successful in obtaining funding for 12 months from the South Wales Police Crime and Commissioners fund; which enabled the Outreach Team to commit two evenings a week in order to begin engaging with local residents, young people, schools, businesses and students to find out what community issues were common. The aim of the outreach team, agreed in partnership with the Police, was to start building up relationships with young people, with an overall aim of reducing anti social behaviour by using conversational, sporting and creative activities giving young people the option to self-reflect on their behaviour and make positive and meaningful choices, considering how their behaviours affect no only them but other people and the overall community.
SUCCESSES
South Wales Police has confirmed significant decreases in crime within areas in which outreach staff have been posted.
The Outreach Team has had over 1000 engagements since we began. Connecting with all aspects of the community.
Bringing over twenty young people away from anti-social environments and allowing them the opportunity to join Cathays' Youth Club provisions.
This month (April 22) we launch our first family fun day festival, bringing the community together at Maitland park to a deliver a wealth of activities to engage a variety of ages. Including bike repairs, open conversations with the local police service, live music, food and the spraying of a graffiti mural! This day will mark a significant point for the provision as nearly two years of hard work has lead to bringing the community together in one event.
WITH YOUR HELP AND SUPPORT
With your help, the provisions success can continue to grow and help young people within the community. All funds will go directly to financing staff and activities to maintain the integrity of the outreach provision. We will aim to identify more areas of anti-social behaviour and recreate the success we've had with areas such as Maitland Park.
