I have signed up to run a half-marathon month in September and October this year, running 4 half-marathon's in 4 weeks! I have volunteered for Mencap Society for a number of years, and became Deputy Club Leader for Keynsham and District's Mencap 18+ club back in 2016. The group meet weekly and provide a number of social activities for adults with a wide range of learning disabilities. The group run weekly trips from dinner, mini-golf, cycling and boat excursions as well as base activities including Mencap's Got Talent, cinema nights as well as hosting a wide range of entertainers. 18+ offers crucial social interaction for the members that attend, allowing them time aware from their families and carers to be with friends and maintain their independence. 18+ is quite easily the highlight of my week. 18+ however, is just one of a number of clubs that Keynsham and District Mencap run, others include Go Explore, Finess Club, Music Man and various juniors groups - details can be found on their website: https://www.keynshammencap.org.uk/ The society are currently fundraising to purchase their own premises, currently these are run from various venues across the local area. Owning their own premises will allow the clubs to be run out of a dedicated building, allowing us to ensure this is fully accessible to all of our members and allowing the Society to expand in future. Their aim is to raise £250,000 by the end of 2019. Keynsham and District Society is an independent charity relying entirely on grants, donations and fundraising, Please help me to raise funds for this very special charity and the amazing people that it supports.
