I realised I was different at a very young age and have struggled with depression and anxiety for as long as I can remember. It was only through chatting to a friend of mine whose family members had been diagnosed with aspergers that I realised that my behaviour and thinking was very similar to my friend's daughter who had Pathological Demand Avoidance and Female Aspergers. Although how I behaved was much less extreme than PDA, I did see a huge amount of similarities to the female asperger profile. After learning more and more about this I am in the process of seeking a formal diagnosis via my GP. Throughout this process I realised that there was very limited knowledge of female aspergers as most studies carried out were on males and aspergers is displayed much differently in females. Also the support available in Stoke On Trent for females who are struggling seemed non existant. I was then hugely blessed when I was put in touch with Lifeworks in Newcastle Under Lyme. Because of their vast first hand knowledge of aspergers, both in males and females, they have been able to give me the support and an understanding ear that I needed to give me hope in what has been a very tough, upsetting and confusing life. They have been massively beneficial to me which is why I want to help raise funds for them and also raise awareness of female aspergers. Thank you for reading. God bless you heaps. Clare xx
