Did you know that a whopping 82% of Bristolians think street litter is a problem in their area, rising to 93% in the most deprived areas?

We're Jess and Sophie, we live in Bristol, and we want to help fix this truly rubbish problem! We recognise that litter ends up on our streets from a variety of sources - from careless individuals, to overfilled bins, to extreme weather. We also know there is no one person independently responsible for the problem of litter in Bristol and that we, as a community, can all do out bit to protect our city and streets.

So what are we going to do about it?
We've decided to stop wishing for a cleaner city, and start building one through action! We'll be doing weekly litter picks of our local areas from 1st December to 1st March 2022 (who knows, it might even become permanent!). We're also doing this to raise money for Babbasa.

Babbasa is a Bristol-based social enterprise with a mission to inspire and support young people from ethnically diverse and low-income communities to pursue their career ambitions. They have two strong beliefs; that young people's aspirations and opportunities should not be determined by their background, and that every young person has a unique skill or talent which, if explored and nurtured, can advance humanity in a significant way. Their 2030 Vision is to support at least one person from each inner-city household in Bristol to secure a median salary job by 2030.

What Babbasa believes about opportunities, we believe about litter - it isn't evenly distributed and affects some areas of our city more than others.

Our goal is to raise £2000 for Babbasa over the course of the next few months, and to encourage a bit of local activism!
