Every Monday we run cultural dance lessons and rehearsals to keep young people off the street and to help older people cope with isolation. Through performing arts we engage communities in active participation in dance and drama, social inclusion, celebrating diversity, improved mental and physical well-being.
Why they need our serviceThere is a lot of isolation, lack of identity among children, young people and older people from Ethnic minority communities. We are offering free dance and drumming rehearsal and learning to play traditional African instruments eg fiddle, rattle, and others. The activity offers social networking opportunity, offers exercise, improves on mental well-being, gives sense of belonging and the young people are engaged instead of hanging out on streets and getting in trouble. Isolated elderly get active.
Plan and expected resultsFor young people participating in dance activities, it engages them, gets them off the street, get a feel of identity and build confidence to achieve higher in life. The elderly get the opportunity to be active not to be socially isolated. The project improves mental well-being, physical well-being and includes the socially isolated. The dance rehearsals will help people to jell, network, support each other and forge social cohesion.
