Team Fundraisers

Enthusiasts drawn from Samaritan Volunteers, Support Volunteers, Friends and Members of the Community are busy raising plants from seed, by division, by cuttings and by potting on purchased plug plants. These are grown and nurtured in a polytunnel or greenhouse until they are of marketable size and quality, when they are sold through Farmers' markets in the form of perennial plants in pots, hanging baskets, summer bedding plants and pots of flowering bulbs - raising funds for Samaritans

Why they need our service

Samaritans are keen to involve the community in activities that are useful to our branch and interesting and therapeutic for those involved. Anyone can contribute to this project, and those already involved are enjoying the companionship of shared tasks and expertise. It particularly appeals to those who have a love of gardening, but through age or indifferent health are no longer able to manage a full garden on their own. This is especially true for the owner of the garden we have been lent.

Plan and expected results

Individuals have the benefits of working together on a worthwhile project. For many this is therapeutic, helping to prevent loneliness. Others, often without gardens of their own, welcome the opportunity to partake in gentle gardening activity and share their expertise with others less experienced. All enjoy the companionship and the opportunity to make new friends. A few tasks offer the challenge of physical labour and Samaritans benefit from the profits at market. Our 1st year raised £2000
