A 20m x 7m community polytunnel would cover one whole allotment site. It would be divided up inside to create raised beds (some 'high' beds) of approximately 45sq ft to garden in good climatic conditions out of the harsh winds and the rain. The polytunnel would extend the range of workshops offered to visitors on training days.

Older allotment gardeners are reluctant to give up their plots when they can no longer realistically manage them: a raised bed in a community polytunnel would extend their gardening life and provide a freed-up allotment for a newcomer. People in wheelchairs wanting to garden need higher raised beds out of the cold and wet and with hardstanding.

Older gardeners extending their gardening life and keeping their important social contacts on the allotment. The gardening 'year' will be extended because of the sheltered environment. A greater range of fruit and vegetables can be grown extending into the winter. New Workshops will be added to the programme for visitors each year to learn new skills. Stimulate 'community' activity on this huge allotment site through social interaction as it becomes a 'hub' of growing activity.
