Complementary therapies are valued in a palliative care setting for their capacity to complement conventional medical treatment and enhance patient well being. Our project is to continue to provide free complementary therapy in our hospice and at patients' homes using qualified practitioners.

Why they need our service

Feedback from our patients shows that complementary therapy can reduce physical symptoms of tension, stress and pain, as well as provide emotional benefits. Treatments are often described as soothing, relaxing and enjoyable. It is our aim to enhance quality of life for patients with life-limiting conditions and our complementary therapy service is a valued part of our holistic care.

Plan and expected results

Success would be our patients reporting reduced feelings of stress, less muscle tension and better quality sleep as just some of the outcomes of our service, which we will monitor. While we will deliver the service at patients' homes, we also hope that those who come to the hospice for treatment will have some of their fears allayed about being in a hospice environment, and will be more likely to seek out our other free services which could be of benefit to our patients and their families.
