An 18 year old unaccompanied Eritrean refugee was blinded in an unprovoked acid attack in Croydon last year. His friend was also attacked but managed to save his eyesight. By all accounts, both victims are lively, kind and tenacious young men whose lives have been inexplicably changed by an assailant who is still at large. How they will manage to come to terms with this life changing attack is beyond comprehension.

This case left a hole in my heart and I've been donating to the Da'aro Youth Project ever since; its a South London charity who have been front and centre in these young men's lives since they first arrived in the UK after a traumatic journey.  It's hard to fathom the sacrifice and hardship that so many endure, and I'd like to show them some kindness and support to this community at large.

Da'aro was established in 2018 by members of the Eritrean community in London in response to the suicides of a number of teenage Eritreans. Any monies raised will go towards funding Da'aro's Youth Club, which in turn, will benefit the pair who were attacked, in addition to other vulnerable teens who are in similarly precarious positions.
