The project is generally run on a termly basis, with each new term offering a new final objective / dance to be targetted. This often also involves a different Dance teacher each time, sometimes a Young Person with the right experience, or a specialised teacher. This is one of the more difficult activities to describe due to different teaching methods per tutor, but the group generally has a warmup, listens to music and theorise on the dance, then puts their theory into practice.

Why they need our service

As with all our After-school clubs, our sceduled dance group between 4:30pm and 6:30pm on a Tuesday gives the Young people at EYC a place to go after school; to socialise, make new friends, or to simply dance. As Elgin is an area prone to social exclusion in many contexts, clubs like this promote the integration of young people into youth society, regardless of individual differences, with supportive youth workers supervising the clubs and giving some direction.

Plan and expected results

The expected result of this After-school club would be to reduce the general extent to which the Young People of Moray and in particularly the Elgin area, face social exclusion on many levels. After-school clubs such as this one offer increased opportunities to socialise, be a member of the community, develop skills for both personal growth and the future, and finally educational value.
