Over the course of the next 30 days in April my Mum and I will be running 100 miles (161km) between us to raise money for Womankind, Bristol.
This local charity supports women who have previously experienced or are continuing to be exposed to distressing situations which impact their mental health and well-being. The rising number of domestic violence cases during lockdown, as well as the recent exposure of the alarming proportion of women who have experienced sexual harassment, reflects the need for charities which help women feel supported and heard.
Womankind offers a helpline service, 1 to 1 counselling, group therapy and a befriending service for all women; however, is particularly aimed towards women on low incomes who cannot afford these services on their own.
I have recently signed up to volunteer for the helpline service and begin my training next month. This service gives women the opportunity to openly talk about their experiences, express their feelings and allow them to be understood. This cause means a lot to me as I can sympathise with some of the emotional and psychological distress experienced by women. I encourage women to reach out and openly speak about their experiences as it can be incredibly reassuring and empowering.
Any donations, however small, are greatly appreciated.
Thank you in advance!
