On 24th June, I will be part of the POW supporters taking part in the 5k inflatable challenge event to raise money for Nottingham based charity POW. The course is packed with the some of the largest and most extreme inflatable obstacles ever created!!!! 10 Gigantic Inflatable Obstacles!!! Watch me flip, bounce & boing my way around an incredibly fun 5k course!
POW is a small, peer-led charity with big ambitions. It provides targeted and tailored support to sex workers, who are amongst the most vulnerable and marginalised people in society. This includes everything from basic harm minimisation and personal safety, to crisis intervention and advocacy, to ongoing physical and mental health support, and advice on progression beyond sex work. POW is the only organisation of this kind in Nottinghamshire.
Over the last 20+ years POW has developed a dynamic service, offering unparalleled access to the sex worker community. We are recognised as a beacon project in this sector both locally and nationally. With Nottinghamshire Police we co-chair the multi-agency Nottingham Sex Workers Forum, and we are actively involved in a number of national-level research programmes.
However, our services need to evolve. Vigorous policing campaigns, alongside the rise of IT and mobile technologies, have resulted in profound changes, many sex workers moving ‘underground’ or ‘off-street’. Advertising via mobile phones or websites these women are hidden, harder to reach and at greater risk. This project builds upon our well-established programme, enabling us to evolve and grow to meet the demands of the rapidly changing sex worker community.
