In December 2014 I decided to do a tough mudder course to raise money for charity. It is a 12 mile obstacle course in the mud.
I had an accident at work in august 2013 at the age of 28. I fell and hit my head and as a result I have lost my eyesight. I have been completely registered blind. I now struggle to do everyday activities that I would have previously taken for granted like reading a newspaper or helping my two young children with their homework. I also need a cane to guide me around whenever I go out.
A relative pointed me in the direction of BASIS who are a local charity supporting people with any degree of sightloss. They came to see me at home and advised me on all sorts of help I could get eg training with a cane to get out and gadgets that could help me to do something as simple as make a cup of tea. Without their help and support I wouldn't have known as much info as I do now.
They also hold various sports clubs such as tennis and bowling through the week which allows and encourages sight impaired people to get out and socialise.
In order to complete the course I have had to get a chaperone to guide me around who is giving his time freely in support of my recovery and to help me raise funds.
Coming to terms with my accident has been a long and emotional process which I couldn't have done without the support of all the staff and volunteers at BASIS.
I would now like to give something back by raising funds to allow them to carry on their wonderful work.
I have set a target of £700, so please dig deep for an amazing charity!!
