The Neuromuscular Centre Midlands is the first centre in the region and only the second in UK to offer essential specialised services to those with muscular dystrophy and other neuromuscular conditions.
What are neuromuscular conditions?
Neuromuscular conditions cause progressive degeneration of muscle cells, often resulting in the use of a wheelchair and ventilation support. Some conditions are life limiting and there are currently no cures. As muscle strength reduces, so does the person’s ability to carry out everyday functions. This causes a dramatic reduction in their quality of life and a loss of some, if not all independence.
What we do…
• Specialised, regular physiotherapy
• Assistive exercise facilities
• Physical therapies, such as massage, osteopathy and acupuncture
• An advocacy service, advice and support
• Training courses
• Employment opportunities in a social enterprise
• Volunteering opportunities
