I have had many different roles since I started volunteering/working with Made In Hackney 8 years ago: project apprentice, cookery teacher, outreach stalls throughout London, nutrition training for volunteers and teachers, call check-in with meal recipients during the pandemic, etc etc. But... I have never run in Hackney dressed as a fruit! As we say in French, "le ridicule ne tue pas" and if it helps raising funds to support the amazing work that Made In Hackney does, here I am. More about Made In Hackney below - and any support welcome, no amount is too small, thanks!
About Made In Hackney and the Veg Dash appeal:
Help people through the cost of living crisis with food support, community feasts and plant-based budget cookery classes. The more money we raised the more people can support to stay healthy and well-nourished.
We believe access to good food is a human right - not a privilege. We work across cultures and communities to provide the crucial food support and cookery skills our community needs to stay well-nourished during these economically turbulent, unjust times.
Our work has never been more crucial. Thousands of households are being plunged into poverty, hunger and ill health.
What we will do:
Provide thousands of emergency plant-based meals each month for households across Hackney in need of nourishing, culturally diverse food support.
Provide enriching food education experiences across London that give people the skills to grow, cook and eat more plants on a low budget.
We strive to do all the above with joy, respect and collaboration.
