On Friday 24th of March 2023 as part of 'Sleep out with Nugent' I will give up my bed for the night to experience just a fraction of the challenges of what it is like to be homeless.
Homelessness is a real and growing social issue. According to research published by Shelter in December 2021, at the time more than 274,000 people were recorded as homeless in England, including 126,000 children.
I am taking part in 'Sleep Out with Nugent' to raise money to support Nugent's services that deal with homelessness or people at risk of homelessness. Nugent is a registered charity, caring for, educating, and protecting vulnerable children, young people and adults.
As a permanent deacon, a ministry concerned with the poor and vulnerable, I am fortunate to serve as the Archbishop's Trustee at Nugent. I also volunteer as a Street Pastor, an ecumenical initiative that cares for the homeless.
