If you had told me before my last birthday that I would run a half marathon before my next birthday I would not have believed you. But my son came up with a challenge. He was going to run 5 half marathons on 5 consecutive weekends and wanted 5 people who had not run before to join him. We would benefit by becoming fitter (and in my case I hope a bit thinner!) and we could raise money for a charity of our choice. I am running in the Bristol half marathon on September 21st and have decided to raise money for the Friendship Club. This club is part of the charity Dorset People First which helps people with learning disabilities support each other to speak up and lead change. The Friendship Club is open to all adults with learning disabilities and holds a range of social events in order to address the issue of social isolation. Events, such as skittles, quiz nights, meeting friends in a pub or cafe for a drink and visits to the cinema, are chosen and often run by the members. So please donate what you can to support this group and help the members feel less isolated and more confident and independent. When you donate please specify that you would like the money to go to the Friendship Group. Thank you so much in anticipation Debs xx
