Delta Force is a new initiative which is run from the Youth Cafe in conjunction with the local community and local council. It provides a team of young people who carry out services in the local area, including graffiti removal, garden tidying and waste land renovation. Delta Force also organises and runs other events including coffee mornings, sponsored walks and bag packing to generate funds to promote team building, and to invest back into the Youth Cafe.
Why they need our serviceThe project offers the possibility for the Young People of the Elgin Youth Café to get involved in giving something back to the community, and to attempt to put right stereotypes directed at Young People as troublemakers. The causes of the activities themselves, such as removing graffiti and hosting coffee mornings, are always positive, and give the higher end of the age range something to add to the CVs, and something positive to use their time for, while meeting new friends for the younger.
Plan and expected resultsThe project originally intended to engage a pool of 15 young people who will benefit from enhanced practical skills and self confidence. These aims have been achieved, and now Delta Force aims to continue the work in 2011, while increasing the age rage focus to be on the 16-18 age range, whereby there has always been a gap in interest with the Youth Café, with the general age consensus being 11-15.
