Wikipedia describes Firewalking as ...'the act of walking barefoot over over a bed of hot embers or coals'
I say, now that's a challenge! I like a challenge.
I haven't always been such a daredevil, and believe me there are still many things that frighten me, but since my own diagnosis of Breast Cancer in 2012, I've been pretty determined to live life to the fullest.
I met the lovely Annabel Hancox, on Macmillan online forum, and with a group of other like minded women we supported one another through our chemotherapy, surgery and radiotherapy. Sadly and unexpectedly Annabel lost her battle in December 2012.
Out of this terrible sadness, I met Simon her husband, and like a phoenix rising from the ashes, Annabel's Angels was born. Over the past year myself and many others across the country have taken part in many challenges to raise money and awareness for Annabel's Angels, Cancer Research and Macmillan. The money we've raised for Annabel's Angels has been donated to support the local services in Derby, where Annabel received her treatment.
This year, we thought running is so last year, what can we do to challenge ourselves ?? Hmmm what about Fire walking and so here we are with an event planned for Saturday 21st June 2014, in Derby.
I've read so much about the power of the mind, I was even brought up with my dad saying, 'it's all in your mind'. That phrase came in very handy when going through cancer treatment, willing yourself on and thinking positive to get to the end. Every day I am grateful for what I call my second chance in life and concious of the ones that have lost their lives.
None of us know how long we have on this planet, so do everything in your power to enjoy and challenge yourself. Help others at any opportunity you have.
So please sponsor me to walk over 1000 degrees hot coals, not only will you be helping local people in Derby who are diagnosed with cancer, but you'll be helping me tick another thing off my bucket list.
