The weekly classes were delivered by a local tutor and supported by a volunteer. Sessions did not only focus on teaching IT skills, digital technology was use for a range of activities to engage participants. Large screen tablets were used for games, researching topics and places to stimulate conversation and for browsing music for sing-a-longs.

Why they need our service

Many older adults have little opportunity to learn IT skills, such as browsing the internet or communicating with friends by email. Funding from the Postcode Community Trust enabled us to set up a weekly class that allowed us to help people learn these skills close to where they live and in a relaxed, friendly environment. People supported included people with dementia and mental ill health.

Plan and expected results

As a result of the project, participants were able to learn and develop IT skills, access information on line, communicate with friends via email as well as gain huge measures of satisfaction for trying something new.
