
The group, who are adults over 18, with no upper age limit, are developing skills in devising theatre, using performance skills to build their confidence, share their personal stories and experiences, and challenge common misconceptions about Mental Health. Why they need our service'Don't Mention the Gorilla!' is the flagship project of our community programme, and provides opportunities for adults with experience of Mental Health conditions to engage with a variety of performance, theatre, arts and production processes that encourage and support self development. The programme works closely with mental health specialists to support up to 25 participants per season and will reach an estimated audience of up to 1000 per year. Plan and expected resultsThe group are producing a theatre performance - 'Thought Tension' - which will be at the Barbican Theatre, Plymouth on June 24th and 25th, show starts at 7:45pm. Tickets are £8 (£6 concessions) and available to reserve on box office tel: 01752 263581. We are also producing a dvd documentary and a book, collating our experiences to create resources which can be shared with other arts and mental health organisations to help others in future.
