Hi, I’m Lisa and I work for People First Dorset, a charity which supports adults with additional needs.
As part of People First Dorset, I am involved in an ongoing project called the Friendship Club. The Friendship Club organises inclusive social events for its members such as discos and bowling nights, which help get members out of the house, meeting new people and mixing with the community, things that we may take for granted in everyday life. Consequently, members gain a sense of independence, and their self esteem improves dramatically.
One of the many success stories of the Friendship Club is Peter. He told me that he feels so inspired and empowered by the club that he has decided to take on a challenge! Peter wants to bring a MAMMOTH musical instrument, called a Gavioli to Weymouth seafront. It’s about 20 times bigger than a grand piano and plays fairground music! Copy & paste the link and listen to the sound of the music playing and it immediately conjures up images of hot summer days, ice cream, Punch & Judy and donkeys! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_mPdC3oRUqs
Peter himself has already been granted permission from the council to have the attraction on the seafront, and has raised £550. He just needs another £500 to make his dream a reality. Peter’s enthusiasm is truly inspirational and so I am running the Weymouth Half Marathon on Sunday 15th March in support of him. Please donate what you can to help Peter to achieve his goal. Thank you.
