Many thanks to everyone who has kindly sponsored me this year. We have raised over £600 for Cruse (plus Gift Aid) which is fantastic!
The attached photo (Photo by Barry Cornelius) doesn't prove I did it, but is taken at 8.4 miles half way around 'the endless field'. I am trying to a put a brave face on it, but it was getting tough by this point!
I finished in a much improved time of 1 hour 51 minutes and 41 seconds, eight minutes better than last year!
On Saturday 4th June I will be running the Otmoor Challenge for the second year. The challenge is a half marathon race run on and off road around the beautiful nature reserve of Otmoor, just outside Oxford. As well as the challenge of running the distance itself, the race also involves negotiating stiles and one significant hill inconveniently placed at ten miles, of which I have very painful memories!
Last year many of my friends and family very generously helped me to raise over £1100 for the St Matthew's Church 125th anniversary appeal. I have decided to try and use my participation in the event for a second year to raise money for Oxfordshire Cruse Bereavement Care. I started volunteering for Cruse in September last year and can testify to the very important work it carries out in providing a range of support services to people who have been bereaved, including face-to-face and telephone support, and running friendship and special interest groups.
Each year the organisation faces a funding gap which it tries to fill through additional fundraising efforts like these. I hope you will feel able in joining me in supporting Cruse in its much needed work. Your support might just help up that hill and the last few miles.
With thanks for your support. I will let you know how I get on!
Best wishes
Duncan
