The Dance Leaders Programme empowers young people to grow in their dance practice, develop vital leadership skills, gain accreditation and develop a greater knowledge of the wider world of dance. After a pilot and some short term projects in 2010 and 2011, the ongoing programme started in January 2012 developing a youth dance company within the leadership programme.Currently, only running for the Senior group (14-18 years old), participants named the Company - Eclipse Youth Dance Co.
Why they need our serviceWe create situations where participants can see themselves in a positive light and grow in confidence, to see themselves as active and empowered young people and to create opportunities for their families to see them in a positive light. We believe that bringing people together as we do can create greater cohesion and we encourage young people to be proud of their background and confident of who they are. GSA creates opportunities for young people to achieve.
Plan and expected resultsThe group develop their dance technique and perform but also develop leadership skills as they facilitate workshops for other young people who are not involved in the project. In this way they build confidence, gain experience of facilitating workshops and learn more about the dance and creative industries including project and production management. They gain accreditation up to a Gold Arts Award (which carries UCAS points), take part in a work placement and are supported in their next steps.
