Every summer Eikon aims to take up to 30 young people away to an outdoor activity centre in Devon and involve them in various sporting activities (such as climbing, orienteering, kayaking, canoeing, mountain biking, archery) as well encourage them in discussions about life and current issues that affect young people today. The trips are all about making friends, facing fears and overcoming challenges.
Why they need our serviceEikon specifically targets disadvantaged young people we feel would most benefit from the Personal Development Residentials, including those dealing with issues such as low self-esteem and confidence, anger management or behavioural issues; those coping with depression or self-harming; those overcoming a bereavement, experiencing family problems or suffering from deprivation and inequality.
Plan and expected resultsAll the activities during the week are designed to stimulate and challenge the young people who attend, and we know from previous trips that they are a very effective way of improving self-esteem and self-confidence. In addition, valuable skills such as teamwork, negotiation and leadership are developed and the young people understand more about consideration towards others and dealing with authority.
