So, after vowing never to sit my bottom on another bike saddle, after Spinksy tried his best to kill 43 of us in a sweltering France last year, here I am signed up to cycle 250 miles over two and a half days in sunny Norfolk, 19th to 21st of May, along with 80+ other cyclists, the term cyclists used very loosely where a large number of us are concerned. This year's "mini" Ring of Fire cycle ride is to raise funds for MKRUFC, a self funded community club, Willen Hospice, who provide palliative care for an ever ageing and growing population in the MK area, daily running costs in excess of £13,000, and for Ed Slater an ex MKRUFC junior who went on to have a successful professional rugby career(Google him) until this curtailed when being diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease in July 2022. Off the back of his diagnosis the 4Ed campaign has been created to raise awareness and funds in support of Ed and his family's battle with this particularly cruel disease, and to keep it in the public's minds as both the late Doddie Weir did and Rob Burrows is continuing to do.
With purse strings ever tighter I am aware it is a big ask when trying to persuade folk to part with their hard earned cash so any/all donations will be even more gratefully received this year.
Finally, as with last year, the memory of the much loved, sadly missed Deb Daly will be the fair wind at my back.
