100 years ago some women were given the right to vote. In 2018 we're seeing the biggest global movement to push for greater equality and the end to violence against women and girls, yet in the year between International Women's Day 2017-18 over 130 women died as a result of violence from men - google Jess Phillip's IWD speech in parliament.
Berkshire Women's Aid does a phenomenal amount of work to prevent, advise and provide refuge and safety to women involved in abusive relationships. However, their grants are getting ever smaller, or cut all together meaning last year they had to turn away 73 people looking for a place of safety. That means for every victim they took in to refuge, they turned 3 people away. Calls to their helpline grew by 58% last year. What happens to the women who aren't able to access support?
I'm running Reading Half Marathon on March 18th, please support me to get over the finish line by raising vital funds for BWA.
