October will mark 11 years since I became involved in the amazing charity 'SVC'... and what better way to celebrate than to run a half marathon! I have a love / hate relationship with running, previously content with running just 5km. So here is my challenge... to run 21km in October, while raising money for SVC. I entered the Porthcawl 10k to make sure I was training hard – and was amazed when I finished it in 1hr 4min 55s! Now for the grueling task of increasing the distance even more, all for SVC.
SVC run some amazing projects in South Wales, providing support & fun to disadvantaged and vulnerable members of the community. Just to highlight a few projects that I have been involved in;
- Home & Away: Volunteers are matched with a young person with a learning disability and spend time with them each week. This provides both fun times for the young person and respite for the family.
- Weekenders: Volunteers take a group of young careers on monthly trips out. This gives the children time away from their responsibilities and allows them to act as kids for the day.
- Fab 4 Party Planners: Volunteers organise and deliver parties throughout the year for adults with learning disabilities. This gives the service users an opportunity to socialise and meet others, while improving their well-being and self-confidence.
- SVC Dance: Volunteers run a dance club in a primary school based in a disadvantaged area. This provides activities that the children may otherwise not be exposed to due to costly private dance classes within the community.
Please help keep SVC's projects running by sponsoring me to run the Cardiff Half Marathon!
