Emmex Girl's sponsored ride for Andover BMX Club

This is BMX (or ‘Emmex) Girl. Emmex Girl is three-and-a-half. She joined Andover BMX Club in September 2017 riding her first balance bike. She got a pedal bike for Christmas, and can't wait each week until Saturday to go to BMX ('Emmex') Club. Whilst she relies on her Dad to get up some of the larger jumps, she rides down them all on her own; fearless and relentless. She's coached by qualified volunteers; people who give up their time every weekend to help youngsters like Emmex Girl enjoy sport, develop confidence, and for some, pursue regional or national titles. Last Saturday (10 Mar 18), it was apparent that the track had been damaged on the second bend. Someone had started a fire, melting the tarmac on the racing line and making it dangerous to ride over. Cones had to be used in to indicate the danger area, pushing the riders up the banking. The cost of repairing the small patch of tarmac is quoted as being between £300-£500! Looking at the track, it was clear to Emmex Girl why she couldn't ride over the damaged area. It was harder as parents, to explain why someone had started a fire on the track. Emmex Girl wants to help, but aged three, she's not very good at laying tarmac! She has offered to ride her bike for 5km in her BMX gear to try and raise a bit of money to put something back into the club that has given her so much already. Thruxton Racing have kindly offered Emmex Girl access to their race circuit to undertake her sponsored ride on Wed 21 March. Further details will follow shortly.
